Happy Summer everyone!
It is the holiday season. Some of you may be on holidays, going away on holiday, or at work dreaming of a holiday. If you're in that last category, I feel you and I hope reading this makes you at least feel a little bit better about our two-day breaks that we call the weekend.
I am on holidays dreaming about days at the beach and spending time in luxurious houses that have much better decor than my own! But unfortunately for me, we are trying to be sensible (boring) so I don't think we will be going away anytime soon.
Summer always makes me think about new fashion, not just because it is the end of the year, but because I want to go out and I want to look fashionable and I am plus size. Plus size by all means does not mean you can't be fashionable! It is a lie! Please don't buy into the lie.
I am someone that loves fashion so much! It's always been something consistent in my life. I've been into it for as long as I can remember. From handmade to opshop finds, vintage and modern, it's definitely a part of who I am!
I have not always been the best at it. Like I really really haven't been the best at it. I still think people are joking today when they say I'm really fashionable. I rarely believe them.
My Mum used to make my clothing when I was a child, even up until when I was twelve (the last time I can remember her making my Graduation dress). She did a damnnnnnnn good job! I was a cute kid btw. Crazy, but cute. If I can dig out some photos for a future blog, I will.
I love that Palazzo pants are now a thing, because I had numerous pairs of 'happy' pants that my Mum lovingly made me. My brother, sister and I love reminiscing over these. My brother had this purple pair that were hilarious, they really suited him well though. He loved wearing them everywhere!
I like to keep up with the trends as much as possible, sometimes a trend will come out and I will think "what the heck? Will that even take off?" and sure enough, it usually does. And sometimes I find myself buying whatever it is, be it from the powers of amazing marketing or the fact that we are bombarded with so much advertising that I'm sure we have these brands and products imprinted on our brains.
I love looking on Pinterest at what the new styles might be. What style hair, makeup and glasses will be trending. This year I purchased some rose gold metal glasses frames and I love them!
This time of year I am already considering what will be in fashion in Autumn. I like the in-between months as I find them the easiest to dress for as a plus size woman. In Winter you can look like the Michelin man with all the layers and finding a jacket/coat that doesn't add size to you can be difficult. In Summer you can swelter and get the dreaded chub-rub, but there are most definitely ways around that (short leggings/barrier creams) I must say, it isn't only plus size women that can suffer from this!
I love to try out new fashion trends, despite my size. I think it's good to look at a new trend and say, well why not give it a go? Instead of thinking it's not for you, try it out. My mantra is, if it fits and you love how it looks, it's your body, so wear what you want!
My favourite trends coming out would definitely be the gingham, lilac and more culottes. Those are the three I'll probably wear the most. I have already worn my favourite gingham dress a few times. It is such an easy dress.
Like I said earlier in this post, I haven't always been good at fashion and I'm still not the best at it. Failing a lot at it has definitely helped me to know what goes better together. I don't like to play by the rules, especially where plus size comes into play. Stripes can still be your friend, I don't care what they say.
Below is a list of the places I shop at. I have only listed those that sell online, some have a brick & mortar, but some don't. I think we are about to see more and more warehouses of plus size clothing that are online ONLY. Yes that means you can't try it on, but you know what, that's actually probably one of the best things.
I personally have found it incredibly hard emotionally when I have tried something on in a store, the sales assistance overly helpful awaiting my exit through the curtain, hearing her say "how is it going in there?" while I say "ummmm it doesn't fit." or, "it doesn't cover my chest", "my arms are too big for it". I hear women say all the time "I like to try things on", yes, we all do, so why not within the comfort of your own home?
People have amazing return policies these days and most actually pick up from your home. We are going to see more of this because it's convenient for people like me that work two jobs and have hardly any time during the right hours to shop.
I hope you've enjoyed reading my blog about the new trends for 2018. If you did, why not drop a comment of encouragement below? I'd love to know you're reading!!
Much love xxx
